Recommend a Web Host
I am looking for a new web hosting provider. Currently I am using www.compila.com I must stress I have no problems with Compila at all, but my two year lease is up for renewal and I think I can get a better deal elsewhere.
First and foremost, security and reliability is of utmost importance. Because I need to install Wordpress on it I also need a MYSQL database aswell. Unlimited bandwidth would be a bonus but not a requirement. Also, SMTP support would be a big bonus so I can have my own domain smtp server if I need to send emails away from my isp.
Finally they need to be UK based. I know there are some cheaper deals abroad but I want a UK company to deal with if there are any problems.
So does anybody have any recommendations of a supplier that would suit me please?

1&1. I don’t know if they cover everything you’ve asked for, but they’ve been amazingly reliable. I’ve used them both at home and at work for 7 years or so.

(yeah, it’s a cheeky affiliate link ;P)
Comment on August 12, 2008 07:58 pmHI Dekay, I had a look at 1and1 and their price for the smallest package that includes a mysql database is £8.99 which is a little more than what I wanted to spend, that works out to more than what I am paying now. I was thinking about sort of £5 a month ish.
Comment on August 12, 2008 08:09 pmVidahost. £2.99 per month, or £29.99 for the year.
Here’s my cheeky affiliate link for the preschool:

Comment on August 12, 2008 09:10 pmI can second deKays recommendation for 1&1, they are good. Never had a problem with them up to now.
I won’t post my affiliate link, I’m not as cheeky… well actually I am, but deKay got their first
Only thing to be aware of is that 1&1 databases are limited to 100MB. That will probably be enough for a simple blogging wordpress site, but if you have any plans to expand it, then you might be better off somewhere else.

Comment on August 13, 2008 11:56 amWell for me - it’s 34sp.com
http://www.34sp.com/hostingfeatures
Their personal 500 package is 500Mb of disk space, 2gig monthly with 1MySQL
Been great for me - if you add a 34sp logo on your front page you get upto something like 20% off your annual bill
Support has always been good too
