Xbox 360 Games Marketplace

Great idea but like everything else run by a big corporation, it is too expensive.

I really want Call of Duty 2 as I have never been able to find it again in the shops but at £20 I think that is far too expsnive for a game which is 5 years old.  If it was £9.99 I would buy it instantly but not at £20, I am not that desperate.

They should really have prices whcih reflect the market for older games.  Maybe have a tier system – new games at near full price, games over 2-3 years old should be bargain bucket.

Unfortunately I think people will accept these prices and pay them which will in turn justify them to Microsoft and they will not bother changing them.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is the sequel to Call of Juarez.  Actually it is more of a prequel because the storyline happens before the storyline of the original.  Remember the God-fearing Reverand Ray McCall from the previous game?  Well this is when the mighty Reverand was not a Reverand but a soldier in the American Civil War fighting for the confederate.

The game starts off in the American Civil War until Mr Ray gets bored and decides to pursue other matters, getting him into trouble with his superiors.  You play alongside Ray’s brother Thomas.  When each level starts you get to choose who to play – Ray or Thomas.  Both of them have unique abilities that the other does not have.  If you choose Ray on a level if you go back and play again with Thomas, you are playing the level from a different perspective so there is some replayability in the game.

The game is very linear and only one route through a level but it really does not matter, it is an enjoyable game nevertheless.  At certain points of the game, before you choose to start your mission you can play around a bit with some side missions.  Just go to the stores and look at the wanted posters on the walls.  There are sides to kill people or to get back stolen property for example.  They are small destractions from the main game.

It is not the best looking current gen game around, but it does the job and sometimes it does look great.  I found when playing I had some picture tearing at times but it was never a serious issue.

Generally it is not too difficult a game but my main gripe is the shooting duels, I find them incredibly hard and sometimes they took 10 attempts or more to win.  Very frustrating.

Good game, definitely worth a rental and maybe pick it up to buy if you are interested in the included multiplayer.

Good/10

Samsung LE40A557 Sky Remote Code

I unashamedly bought a new TV yesterday.  It is the 40 inch Samsung LE40A557 from Comet £599.  OhMyGoodNess it is an amazing television.  I previously had a Polaroid 26 inch and this is better than that Tv by a country mile.

No longer do I have HDMI issues, the sound is better (not tinny) and of course with a contrast ratio of 30,000:1 it has much better blacks.  There is one area that Polaroid beats this TV and that is the menus.  On the Polaroid I could easily switch input sources between consoles and sky by pressing source and selecting the input I wanted.  With the Samsung I can go from sky to ps3 or 360 in one button press as it detects the next HDMI source, but going back to sky I have to cycle through all the inputs to get back to sky and that is highly annoying.  But I can live with that.

Right now to set up the Sky remote code.  Press interactive on the sky remote and navigate through the options to customer services and choose to setup your remote control.  Go down to Samsung but you will find this model not in the list.  No problem, just select the closest match which is the LE40A566 – Sky code 0840

Then follow the on screen instructions to change the code.  Voila! You can now control your TV volume etc with your Sky Remote.

I have confirmed this code works with Sky HD remote controls.  I am unable to confirm it with other remotes.

Fallout 3

What a great game. I just finished the main story last night and have a great sense of satisfaction and money well spent. I am extremely disappointed that you CANNOT continue your game in the world after the final quest, so I have to go back to a previous save now to do all the side quests I missed.

The game was very similar to Oblivion, but many times better. In Oblivion I could travel for miles wandering around and not meet anybody and not be bothered, but here in Fallout 3 every step I felt there was something around the corner. I stepped with a real fear that something would jump out on me. I think the cause of that was the post-nuclear-bomb setting. The ruins, the desolate buildings and burned out cars, I was always moving with excitement and intrepidation about what was coming next. Even in areas I had been before and killed all enemy, I felt like something else was around the corner.

Graphically it looks fantastic but I did have a few issues with tearing at times and a few framerate drops. The most annoying thing though was that quite often after saving or fast travelling I would lose my hotkey settings for weapons so had to keep re-assigning them. An annoyance but at least I had no crashes or game killing bugs.

Fallout 3 for me is definitely a candidate for Game of the Year, I think the only one that can beat this now is Call of Duty: World at War, we will see about that one next week.

Polaroid HDTV Sky Remote Code

Looking at my web stats I see that people are still coming to my blog looking for Polaroid HDTV Sky remote control codes. So just this once I am posting the instructions again.

I cannot help with all box types but if you have Rev 6 remote or above then try the following with code 206

1. Select any channel on your TV.
2. Point your Sky remote away from the TV and press tv
3. Press and hold down select and the red button simultaneously until the red light at the top of your Sky remote flashes twice.
4. Input the Sky remote control code (206) and press select . The red LED at the top of the Sky remote control should flash twice.
5. Point your Sky remote at the TV and try the volume button. If this works try other TV functions. If these work then the correct code has been selected.

I have confirmed the code 206 works with the Polaroid FLU 26/32 and with Sky HD. I have also managed to get the code working on Sky+ remotes/boxes.
